Daterra - meaning 'From the earth' was founded in 1976 where an Italian family tried farming everything from cattle to avocados, then settled on coffee. Located in the Cerrado region of Brazil they are in the perfect condition for amazing beans to grow, with steady a climate of dry fresh winters and warm wet summers. With the steady weather conditions and diverse range of altitudes and micro-climates Daterra creates coffees for all palates from velvet-chocolatey to bright and floral profiles.
Sustainability is a large factor in Daterra's mission, they are all about "offering the best we can to people and to our planet". It took 10 years for Daterra to recover their farming areas well enough to produce good quality coffee and begin exporting. That being said they have received countless acclamations being known as one of the worlds most sustainable farms, and continually commit to research and innovation to protect and improve their region.
Masterpieces by Daterra is their very small farm and lab where they test new ways of producing coffee. This lab is rich with exotic varietals, processing methods, drying techniques and limitless experiments. Each coffee has a unique cup profile, is fully traceable and can never be replicated! Just like this Red Catucai lot which we are very lucky to have at Bredda Coffee.
This Red Catucai is a cross between varietals Icatu and Catuai, which occurred naturally resulting in well producing and vigorous plants with good resistance against leaf rust. This particular coffee was made with aerobic fermentation in open tanks, no water, yeast or other additives were added to this coffee. This has resulted in a great phosphoric acidity and rich flavours of red berries and boozy notes of rum & raisin ice cream.
